How to answer: Tell the interviewer about your career goals ~7 to 10 years from now. Ensure to link your career goals to the company you are applying for to show the interviewer you can be a long-term asset to the company and that you are looking for stability.
Answer: “In 7 to 10 years from now, I would like to have grown within the same company I started with, having acquired skills enabling me to establish myself as an expert in my field. I would love to be responsible for more managerial duties and ultimately lead a team of professionals.”
2. Tell me about the toughest decision you had to make in the last six months.
How to answer: This is an important question, as you want to seem honest and specific without implying that you have problem-solving skills. You also need to show the interviewer that you awarded your responsibility and that you are not likely to quit any situation that happens again in the future.
Answer: “I was managing the telephone exchange in my recent place of work when an irate customer called and started verbal abuse. There was no way for me to calm him down, as he wouldn’t stop with the string of abuses. I could hang up on him, call a supervisor, or handle it myself. I decided to manage the problem on my own, as I did not want to escalate it too much. The decision to not escalate the problem was quite a tough one to take though.”
3. Why Should We Hire You?
How to answer: Answering this question may mean you finding yourself in a quandary about what to say. Should you boast about how good you are, or should you be humble about the whole thing? Keeping a balance here is important. Hiring managers will want the truth from you, but they will also require you to keep boasting to a minimum. There are very few ways of getting out of this by impressing the hiring manager completely. Complete honesty at this point is probably not a good idea.
Answer: “I believe that I am an excellent candidate to work in this position. This is because my skills and abilities align extremely well with what you have outlined in your job description. While working at this position, I will have a lot to contribute to the company.”
