Try practicing some of these common Agricultural worker’s job interview questions by Pritish Kumar Halder:
1. What types of agriculture do you have experience performing?
How to answer: This question can tell an interviewer about a candidate’s previous experience in farming by highlighting specific skills and techniques they know. As there are many types of agriculture, showcasing the areas you have experience in can show employers where you might be valuable on their farm. You can answer this question by listing a few techniques or types of farming you’ve engaged in before.
Answer: “I have the most experience on a family farm, but I also worked for a summer at the local dairy farm. While I haven’t worked at a commercial farm before, I’m familiar with the large-scale planting techniques and specialized equipment they use.”
2. Do you use any environmentally sustainable alternatives to pesticides?
How to answer: An interviewer might ask this question to learn about a candidate’s knowledge of technical practices in farming. As many farms are starting to implement environmentally friendly alternatives to classic farming methods, showing that you’re familiar with new methods can make you an attractive candidate. To answer this question, discuss one or two alternatives to pesticides that you know about.
Answer: “I have experience using natural barriers and introducing predators to keep pests away. I also worked on a farm that used partner planting to keep similar crops together to protect each other with natural pest repellent methods.”
3. How effective are you at working under pressure?
How to answer: This question can tell an interviewer about a candidate’s ability to respond to potentially stressful situations. This can be especially important for farmworkers, as they often encounter unforeseen circumstances, such as crops not growing or animals getting sick. When answering this question, highlight your skills in working under pressure and use a specific example if you have one.
Answer: “I’ve always been great at working under pressure and responding to challenges at work. At my family’s farm this past year, our chicken coop got damaged from a storm, and all of our chickens were roaming the yard. I took initiative to collect each chicken and bring it back to the secured coop safely while remaining calm, so as not to excite the animals further.”
Not every question you will encounter when interviewing for an Agricultural workers position will be related to an environmental and Health supportive job. But those are the common topics interviewer can ask for selecting a qualified candidate.
